Itinerary

  1. 1
    0:00Arrival and briefing

Check in at the Ubud base, sign the rider form, and get fitted with a helmet, boots, gloves and body protector. The guide runs through the controls: throttle, brake, and how to sit through a corner.

  2. 2
    0:15Practice lap

A slow lap on flat open ground to get used to the machine before any of it matters. Nobody leaves for the track until every rider in the group is comfortable starting, stopping and turning.

  3. 3
    0:25Rice fields and village track

Out along the bunds between working rice fields, past farm huts and duck ponds, then onto a village lane where the track narrows and the canopy closes over.

  4. 4
0:50Jungle, river crossing and the mud puddle

Into the valley: a bamboo section, a shallow river crossing with water over the footwells, and the mud puddle. The guide stops here for photos, and riders who want to stay clean take the dry line around it.

  5. 5
    1:20Return and clean up

Back to base along the ridge. Showers, soap and a change area are available, and there is somewhere to rinse a camera and put muddy clothes in a bag.

About the Ubud Single ATV

This is the ride most people picture when they think of an ATV day in Bali: one machine each, a guide in front, and 90 minutes of rice terrace, jungle and mud in the countryside north-east of Ubud. The track is private. You are not queueing behind another operator or sharing a public lane with scooters and trucks.

The route opens flat and green, along the bunds between working rice fields where farmers are usually out early. It then drops into jungle, crosses a shallow river, climbs through a bamboo stand and delivers you to the mud puddle — the deep, brown, entirely optional section that produces every photo anyone posts from this tour.

Riders with no experience are the norm rather than the exception. You get a practice lap on flat ground before the track starts, and the guide sets the pace to the slowest rider in the group instead of the fastest.

Safety, weather and cancellation

Every ride starts with a briefing from the team. You are fitted with a machine, full safety gear and clear riding instructions, then given a practice lap on flat ground before the track begins — so nobody sets off unsure of what the throttle does.

All guides are local, English-speaking, and ride the track with your group rather than sending you off alone.

Tours run in light rain — the tracks are at their best when they are wet. If conditions are genuinely unsafe the activity is rescheduled or refunded in full, and that call is made by the guide on the day.

Free cancellation at least 1 day before the start. No refund less than 1 day before the start. No cancellation once the voucher has been used.
