Check in at the Kintamani base on the caldera floor. Gear up, then take a briefing focused on loose surfaces: how the machine behaves on ash and rock, and why the guide keeps more space between riders here.

A lap on flat ground to feel the difference between this surface and packed dirt before you set off across the field.
- 30:30Onto the lava field
Out across the black rock left by Mount Batur, with the caldera wall on your left. Open ground, wide sight lines, and the first proper stretch where you can carry speed.

The guide stops on high ground for the full caldera view — Mount Batur above, Lake Batur below, and the lava flows spread out between. This is the photo stop of the tour.

About the Kintamani ATV
Kintamani is the outlier in this range and the reason to book it is the ground itself. You are riding on the lava field left by Mount Batur, inside the caldera: black rock, grey ash, low scrub, and almost no green until the far edge. It looks nothing like the rest of Bali and photographs like another country.
The altitude changes the day too. At around 1,000 metres the air is 6 to 8 degrees cooler than Ubud, mornings are often clear before cloud builds over the summit, and the caldera wall stands above you for the whole ride with Lake Batur sitting below it.
Two hours is the longest ATV route in the range, and the surface is loose rather than slippery — you are managing rock and ash, not mud. It is the tour to choose if you want scale and scenery over getting filthy, and it pairs naturally with a Mount Batur sunrise trek earlier the same morning.
