Ask a questionItinerary
- 10:00Arrival and briefing
Check in at the Uluwatu base, gear up, and take the controls briefing. The guide covers braking on hard limestone, which behaves differently from dirt, and spacing to stay out of the dust of the rider in front.
- 20:15Practice lap
A slow lap on flat ground to get used to how the machine grips on rock before heading out onto the plateau.
- 30:25Scrubland and limestone track
Out onto the plateau through dry scrub and cactus, on hard white track with long open sight lines — the fastest, most flowing section of the route.
- 40:50Quarry cuts
Through the cut limestone corridors where blocks have been quarried out of the plateau, leaving vertical white walls on both sides. The guide stops here for photos.
- 51:10High ground and ocean view
Up to the high point of the track for the view south across the Bukit, with the Indian Ocean on the horizon, then a looping return through grazing land.
- 61:30Return and clean up
Back to base for a rinse and a change of clothes. Limestone dust is fine and pale and gets into everything, so it is worth changing before getting into a car.

About the Uluwatu ATV
The Bukit peninsula is a raised limestone plateau, and it rides completely differently from the rest of Bali. There is no deep mud here because the water drains straight through the rock. Instead you get hard white track, dust, dry scrub, cactus, and long open sight lines across ground that feels closer to the Mediterranean than to the tropics.
The route runs through quarry cuts where the limestone has been carved into vertical walls, across open grazing land where cattle are tethered under the trees, and out to high ground where the Indian Ocean shows on the horizon.
Practically, this is the ATV ride for anyone staying in the south. From Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang, Nusa Dua or Jimbaran you are 15 to 30 minutes away rather than the 90-minute drive to Ubud, which makes it easy to ride in the morning and still make a sunset at the temple.
Safety, weather and cancellation
Every ride starts with a briefing from the team. You are fitted with a machine, full safety gear and clear riding instructions, then given a practice lap on flat ground before the track begins — so nobody sets off unsure of what the throttle does.
All guides are local, English-speaking, and ride the track with your group rather than sending you off alone.
Tours run in light rain — the tracks are at their best when they are wet. If conditions are genuinely unsafe the activity is rescheduled or refunded in full, and that call is made by the guide on the day.
Free cancellation at least 1 day before the start. No refund less than 1 day before the start. No cancellation once the voucher has been used.
Uluwatu ATV questions
How much is the Uluwatu ATV ride?
The ATV Adventure in Uluwatu costs IDR 600,000 (about USD 36) per person for a 90-minute ride across the Bukit peninsula, including an English-speaking guide, helmet, boots, gloves, body protector and drinking water.
Is the Uluwatu ATV ride muddy?
No. The Uluwatu ATV ride crosses limestone terrain on the Bukit peninsula, where rainwater drains straight through the rock, so riders finish covered in pale dust rather than mud. The Ubud ATV tracks are the muddy ones.
How far is the Uluwatu ATV track from Seminyak and Canggu?
The Uluwatu ATV base is about 45 to 60 minutes from Seminyak and 60 to 80 minutes from Canggu, against 15 to 30 minutes from Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang, Jimbaran or Nusa Dua.
Can I do the Uluwatu ATV ride and Uluwatu Temple on the same day?
Yes. The Uluwatu ATV ride takes about two hours including briefing and cleaning up, and the ATV base is roughly 20 minutes from Uluwatu Temple, so a morning ride and a sunset kecak performance at the temple fit comfortably into one day.
What should I wear for the Uluwatu ATV ride?
Wear clothes you do not mind covering in limestone dust, plus sunglasses and sunscreen — the Uluwatu ATV track is open, bright and has almost no shade. Riding boots, gloves, a helmet and a body protector are provided.
What is the minimum age for the Uluwatu ATV ride?
The minimum age to drive an ATV on the Uluwatu track is 12, and no driving licence is required. Younger children can ride as a passenger on a tandem machine with an adult.
Is the Uluwatu ATV ride good in the rainy season?
The Uluwatu ATV ride copes with the rainy season better than most Bali tracks, because limestone drains fast and the surface firms up rather than turning to deep mud. Rides run in light rain and are rescheduled or refunded only if conditions are unsafe.
