About Ubud

Ubud sits inland in Gianyar Regency, in the river valleys between the coast and the mountains, and it is where most people base themselves for an adventure day in Bali. The reason is geography: three deep gorges cut through the area, which is what gives you both the rafting and the jungle track riding within twenty minutes of the same town.

The ATV tracks north-east of town are the classic Bali ride — rice terrace bunds, a bamboo descent, a shallow river crossing and the mud puddle. The Ayung River, north-west towards Payangan, is the gentlest of the three rivers we run and the standard first raft for families.

Ubud is also ten minutes from Celuk, the village that has worked silver for generations, which is why the silversmithing class here has the deepest stock of stones and the most experienced teachers of the nine studios.

Getting there

Ubud is roughly 60 to 90 minutes by car from Seminyak, Canggu and Kuta, and about 75 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Traffic on the Denpasar–Ubud road is heaviest between 08:00 and 10:00 and again from 16:00.

Best time to go

Morning departures get the clearest weather and the quietest tracks. In the wet season (roughly November to March) afternoon rain is common, which makes the ATV tracks better and the rivers faster.

Ubud offers ATV riding on private tracks from IDR 500,000 per person, Ayung River rafting at IDR 350,000 per person, and a two-hour silversmithing class at IDR 500,000. All three run daily and can be combined into a single day.

How far is Ubud from the airport?

Ubud is about 75 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport in normal traffic, and can take two hours at peak times. It is roughly 60 to 90 minutes from Seminyak, Canggu and Kuta.

Can you do ATV and rafting in Ubud on the same day?

Yes. The Ayung Rafting and Private ATV combo covers both in about four hours for IDR 700,000 per person, including the transfer between them and lunch — IDR 150,000 less than booking the two activities separately.

Is Ubud good for a first-time ATV rider?

Yes. The Ubud private track begins with a briefing and a practice lap on flat ground, the machines are automatic with no gears, and the guide sets the pace to the slowest rider in the group. Most people on it have never ridden an ATV before.
